Who we are

Reliable Contractor operates reliablecontractor.ca and reliablecontractor.net, serving Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. You can reach us at quote@reliablecontractor.ca.

What we collect

From the quote request form, we collect what you type into it:

• Your first and last name
• Your email address and, if you provide it, your phone number
• The project address or city
• Property type, the services you need, budget range and timeline
• Any project details you write, and your preferred contact method

We do not ask for payment details, government identifiers, or any other sensitive information. Please do not include such information in the project details box.

Separately from the form, when you submit a request our system records the IP address the request was sent from, along with the date and time. We use this only to identify spam and abuse of the form. When you simply browse the site, Google advertising cookies also collect information about your visit — that is described under Cookies and advertising.

Why we collect it, and who we share it with

We collect this information for one purpose: to match your project with a suitable contractor and to give that contractor enough detail to contact you and quote the work.

Your request is delivered to us first, at quote@reliablecontractor.ca. We read it and decide which contractor in our network is the best fit for your trade, location and timeline, then pass your details to that one contractor. It is not broadcast to multiple contractors, and it is not sold to third-party lead brokers, advertisers, or marketing lists.

Contractors are vetted before they join our network. We confirm that they are insured and that they hold the licences required for the regulated trades they carry out.

The contractor then contacts you directly, using the contact method you selected on the form. If you asked to be contacted by email, they email you; if you asked for a phone call or text, they use the number you gave.

We keep our own copy of your request for the period described under How long we keep it. The contractor is separately responsible for the copy we pass to them, and their own privacy practices apply to it. If you want to know how a particular contractor handles your data, ask them directly when they contact you.

Service providers we use

We use a small number of outside services to run the site and deliver your request. They process your information on our behalf:

• Cloudflare — hosts and delivers the site, and processes request data to keep it secure.
• Resend — delivers the quote request from the website to our inbox. The contents of your request pass through and are retained in Resend's systems, which are located in the United States.
• Google Workspace — our email. Your request is stored in our inbox.
• Google Ads — advertising measurement, described below.

Because some of these providers operate outside Canada, your information may be stored or processed in the United States and can be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access requests by US authorities.

How we are paid

Contractors in our network pay us a referral fee for each request we pass to them. That fee is payable whether or not you go on to hire them. Homeowners pay us nothing, and you are never obliged to hire the contractor we introduce.

We state this plainly because it is the kind of thing you are entitled to know before deciding whether to submit the form.

Your consent

We ask you to tick a consent box before submitting the form. Ticking it is your agreement that we may share your details with one network contractor for the purpose described above. If you do not tick it, we cannot process your request.

How long we keep it

We retain quote requests for up to 24 months so that we can answer questions about a referral, resolve disputes, and meet our record-keeping obligations. After that, records are deleted.

Your rights

We handle your information in line with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies to our activities, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Under those laws you may ask us to:

• Tell you what personal information we hold about you
• Correct anything that is inaccurate
• Withdraw your consent and have your details deleted from our records

Email quote@reliablecontractor.ca and we will respond within 30 days. Note that if we have already passed your details to a contractor, you will need to contact that contractor separately to have their copy removed — we will tell you who they are so you can do so.

Cookies and advertising

We advertise on Google. To measure whether those ads work, every page of this site loads a Google Ads tag. It runs when the page loads, and it sets cookies in your browser.

Through that tag, Google receives your IP address, which pages you viewed, and when. It uses this to report which ads led to quote requests, and to show you Reliable Contractor ads on other sites you visit afterwards. This processing takes place on Google's infrastructure, in the United States. We see only aggregate reporting — we cannot identify you personally from it.

We do not sell this information, and we do not combine it with what you type into the quote form.

How to switch it off. You can turn off personalised advertising in Google My Ad Center, install Google's opt-out browser add-on, opt out of interest-based advertising across many Canadian sites through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada, or block and clear cookies in your browser settings. Blocking these cookies does not stop you from using this site or submitting the quote form.

The site also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads, and it is served through Cloudflare, which processes request data to deliver and secure the site.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes to how we share your data will not be applied retroactively to requests already submitted.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia at oipc.bc.ca.
